NOTD: “P3” by A Girl Obsessed

24 Oct
A Girl Obsessed: P3

A Girl Obsessed: P3

“P3” by A Girl Obsessed is named after the Piping Plover shore bird, and is just gorgeous small orange, white, black, and caramel circle and square glitters.  This glitter is a great fall polish, and for my NOTD I have it over Wet N Wild Megalast Nail Color in “Club Havana” (Orange) and Wet N Wild Fast Dry Nail Color in “Ebony Hates Chris” (Black).

There was no “playing around” with these glitters.  This is just one coat of the glitter, and I didn’t have to move any of them to get the glitters in the position I wanted.  You can get this polish here!

Swatch: Jesse’s Girl Julie G Frosted Gum Drops Holiday Collection

21 Oct
Jesse’s Girl JulieG Frosted Gum Drops Holiday Collection 2013

Jesse’s Girl JulieG Frosted Gum Drops Holiday Collection 2013

I went to Rite Aid yesterday, JUST to check if the Jesse’s Girl Julie G Frosted Gum Drops Holiday Collection was on display…and it was!  I usually have to WAIT awhile before it hits the shelves here.

I was so happy to pick up all six! I’ve tried the Frosted Gum Drops before, but I think for the Holidays these polishes could be great for nail art.

Silver Bells

What a great sparkly silver!  Perfect after two coats.  One of my faves from the collection.

Ho Ho Ho

Another great holiday color.  It’s a bit more of a berry color than a Santa Claus Red, and I just adore the silver glitters in it as well.  This shade also doesn’t necessarily need two coats, but I put two on for my swatch.  A second coat makes it a bit more vibrant.  The photo doesn’t make this as berry colored as it actually is.

Mistletoe

Green with silver glitter.  Mistletoe only needs one coat.  It’s super vibrant right out of the bottle.  My swatch does have two coats.

Gift of Gold

This gold is more like a spicy mustard.  Goes on with just one coat, I have two on in my swatch.  This is my least favorite of the polishes. I am just not a fan of this gold!

Sugar Plum Fairy

A pretty purple with silver sparkles.  Another polish in the collection that doesn’t need two coats.  Maybe I have Halloween on the brain, but I can definitely see myself using this next week for a Halloween mani.

Sleigh Ride

I was definitely drawn to this beautiful blue in the bottle, and on the nails it’s even more beautiful.  Another one of my favorites!

I know it’s EXTREMELY early, but I am always ready for the holiday season. I can’t wait to use these in some great holiday inspired manis.

Have you picked up the Holiday Frosted Gum Drops?

Halloween Nail Art: Spiderwebs

7 Oct

After a stressful week at work, I really needed to destress by having some “me time.”  It’s a rainy day, so the nail drying process has been torture, but I’m loving the end result.

CherryBlossomPretty: Halloween Spiderweb Manicure

CherryBlossomPretty: Halloween Spiderweb Manicure

This manicure takes time, patience, and a dotting tool. 🙂

After my base coat dried, I applied two coats of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in “Snow Storm.”  Then, I free handed an orange tip using Wet N Wild Megalast Nail Color in “Club Havana.”  Let this dry before beginning the nail art.  If it’s not completely dry, it could ruin the manicure!

For the lines, I used Jordana Pop Art Nail Art with precision Brush in “Black Mark.”  I then filled in the web using the thinnest dotting tool I have.  I dropped the black polish onto foil, dipped my dotting tool and free handed the curved lines of a web.

In the photos, I had a white accent nail with a spider.  Yeah, I changed that.  Ha!  I took it off, made it orange, and re-did the spider using just the dotting tool.  Dot in the body, add the legs and web strand.

I used Wet N Wild Wild Shine Nail Color in “Hallucinate” for a glitter top coat.

VOILA!

Water Marble Nails

11 Sep

I’m home sick with the flu, and I’m completely bored with laying down.  I decided to attempt my second water marble nail ever.  The first time was a disaster to put it nicely.  I tried it when I was living in the Caribbean, and I think the humidity, the water, and the nail polish just did not work. And since it’s the start of the NFL season, I decided to go for my team’s colors: The Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles Nails : Water Marble

Philadelphia Eagles Nails : Water Marble

I used these directions from Nail Art 101: http://www.nail-art-101.com/water_marble_nail_art.html

Polishes I used:

CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant in “Constant Caribbean”

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in “Celeb City”

Wet N Wild Nail Color in “Ebony Hates Chris”

Orly Nail Lacquer in “Platinum”

This manicure was a lot more fun than when I attempted the first time.  Maybe that’s because it worked.  I was expecting this to be another fail, but I think it worked out all right.  I had to use a bobby pin instead of a toothpick.  Wish I had a toothpick instead of a bobby pin!  Room temperature water is key.  I let mine sit while I napped.  The water marble is a bit of a pain in the butt, you’ll have to have patience and just trust it’ll be fine when you finish the clean up.  It’s fun to play with the polish in the water before dipping as well.  Each nail looks different.

After the clean-up, which I didn’t do my best job at doing (sick, tired, and seriously my hands hurt), I added Starrily’s “Diamond Dusted” on top of the water marble nail.  I love the glitters in this polish!

Have you tried water marble nails? What was your experience?  Also, I’d love to see any NFL inspired manicures you’ve done! Share in the comments 🙂

Sunset Tape + Sponge Gradient Manicure

17 Jul

So I wasn’t a fan of my earlier manicure this week, mainly because it started chipping within three hours.  I decided to try my first tape manicure, and pair it with a sunset inspired sponge gradient.

Sunset Tape + Gradient Manicure

Sunset Tape + Gradient Manicure

First, I painted my nails with Wet N Wild Megalast Nail Color in “Break the Ice.”  I used two coats!

IMG_2783

After applying three tiny strips of tape (leave the ends long for easy removal if doing both hands!!), I used two Spoiled by Wet N Wild polishes in “Uh, As If!” and “Let’s Get Sushi”, and Wet N Wild Megalast polish in “On a Trip” for the sponge gradient.  Paint new stripes for each nail on your makeup sponge!

Sponge on!  And voila!

Now, this manicure can get a little messy, and definitely takes some time to do.  But the end result is totally worth it!

Mani Monday: Fourth of July

1 Jul

In honor of our nation’s birthday this week, my nails are red, white, and blue.  This mani is a bit more difficult than what I normally do, but I love doing some fun nail art every once in awhile.  Kudos to those who do these things EVERY DAY.   I did a flag nail, with a firework accent nail.

Mani Monday: Jesse’s Girl Julie G Frosted Gumdrops

24 Jun

I rarely venture out to Rite Aid.  It’s only a block further than my local CVS, but it feels like twelve.  I’m really glad I did, because I was able to pick up four of the Jesse’s Girl Julie G Frosted Gumdrop colors.  For only $3.99 a bottle, I didn’t feel like I was breaking the bank.  I did pick up four, which is way more than I would ever go for.  Since they were the very last ones, and I couldn’t just leave them!  They had to come to a good home.

Tangerine Dream

Tangerine Dream

I wasn’t into any kind of textured polish before, but I may be a convert.  I really did enjoy all of the colors.  “Tangerine Dream” was the thinnest out of all four, and did require a second coat to wear.  I was also really surprised at how EASY to remove the polish was.  I was expecting a struggle like I experience with most glitter polishes, but not with these.  Pleasantly surprised.

For my mani this week, I decided to do a Sponge Gradient using  “Tangerine Dream” and “Hot Cinnamon” to complete the look.  I wasn’t intending on doing my whole nail with the gumdrop formula, but I couldn’t resist.  If you’re not big into the textures, just apply a clear top coat over your manicure. I can’t stop rubbing my fingers over the polish.  It’s definitely a weird feeling if you haven’t tried it before.

NOTD: Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy

19 Jun

I apologize for my absence the past week.  We had a sudden death in the family, and are just getting back into the swing of things.  Please keep our family in your thoughts!

And now…my nails.

Oh, they’ve been a disaster.  I did something on Monday…and I just hated it.  It was so bad I didn’t even want to share.  In fact, I hated it so much I decided I NEEDED NEW NAIL POLISH.  And I went out of my comfort zone.  I usually stick with Sally Hansen, Wet n Wild, or some other brand because I just do not like paying too much.  These Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy polishes have been calling my name since I moved back to the states just about three months ago.  I’m positive I’m late to the game on these, but where I lived we didn’t have access to these kinds of things!  Everything is “new” to me!

IMG_2322

I had some Extra Bucks rewards, and a coupon, AND a BOGO 50% off, I paid a mere $2.50 per bottle as opposed to the sticker price of $8.99.  I purchased two of the Moon Candy Polishes, “Galactic” and “Satellite.”  I admit I was drawn immediately to the glitters.  They’re double ended polishes, which makes for an interesting polish application.  I thought about removing both ends from their respective polish, but I didn’t want it all over my hands.  “Galactic” is a beautiful deep blue polish with jagged blue/greencombo flake glitters.  “Satellite” is a maroon/wine colored polish with gold/green flake glitters.

IMG_2323

So first things first, the base coat.  I loved both.  The bottle gives directions to apply two coats, I only applied one.  It’s a great formula, and stands up on it’s own without the glitter flakes.

The flakes are awesome when finished, but kind of a pain to put on.  They won’t go on even, and you’ll have to fiddle with the brush to get the glitters where you want them to go.  Be careful too!  The flakes are NOT dainty!!  It reminds me of broken glass.  They’re all different shapes, pointy, and thick.  The flakes do not smooth out with a clear top coat!  I’m speaking a lot of negative here, but I really do like the glitter flakes.  I can’t stop looking at them from different angles.  Specifically “Galactic.”  Every angle is a different color.   And about the color of the glitters…do not be fooled like I was.  There’s barely any tint.  If you don’t have anything like it, I’d say jump on it especially if you get a great sale.

IMG_2326

IMG_2333

I certainly wouldn’t pay sticker price for the full collection, but there were a couple I was considering.  If you get a great deal like I did, definitely check ’em out!

Stay Beautiful!!
